IDeAL PhD studentships

PHD STUDENTSHIPS AVAILABLE

The KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) is one of the leading health research programmes in Africa. The Programme has a strong commitment to developing African research capacity. Several fully funded PhD studentship positions commencing in September 2017 are available at our Kilifi and Nairobi sites. The studentships willprovide an opportunity for recipients to carry out their PhD studies within a high quality research environment under the supervision and mentorship of internationally renowned researchers.

Up to 6 full studentshipsfunded under the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL)  are available in the following research areas:

·         Parasite and Viral Immunology

·         Host Genetics and Disease

·         Vaccine Effectiveness and Coverage

·         Emerging Viruses Epidemiology

·         Neurology

·         Microbiology

·         Ethics

·         Health Systems Research

The studentships will cover registration fees, research costs, travel costs, medical insurance and a monthly stipend.

Applications are invited from Africanswho have at least of an upper second-class Bachelors degree or equivalent and a Masters degree in natural sciences (eg, zoology, molecular biology and biochemistry), social sciences, economics or health sciences (e.g. pharmacy, nursing, and public health).  Clinicians (MBChB, BDS, BVet) without a Master’s degree may also apply.

In addition, upto 3 partial statistics PhD studentships that are co-funded by the Sub-Saharan Africa Consortium for Advanced Bioinformatics training (SSACAB) are available.

These studentships will provide 12 month stipendiary support for students who are alreadyregistered for statistics PhD in an African to undertake their research project at the KWTRP
