Intellectual Property Management
Pursuant to Section 7 of the University of Nairobi Act (now repealed) the University of Nairobi formulated its IP Policy to guide its management, employees, students and associates concerning the development, ownership, management and marketing of Intellectual Property.
The policy was formally approved by the University of Nairobi Council in 2006. The policy provided for the establishment of the Intellectual Property Management Office IPMO. The Director, Intellectual Property and the Intellectual Property Management Officer were substantively filled in March 2007 and July 2008 respectively. Secretarial and other support services are provided by a secretary.
The IPMO operates from two rooms on the 3rd floor room A 303 and A310 in Central Administration Block Main campus and is supervised by the Deputy Vice – Chancellor, Research, Innovation & Enterprise. As a result of the promulgation of a new national constitution, changes in the organizational structure of the University and in view of Vision 2030, the Senate appointed a committee to review the policy so as to accommodate the changes. The reviewed policy was approved by the University Management Board in April 2013.
