KIGALI RWANDA
The Research Department at African Institute for Mathematical Sciences – Next Einstein (AIMS - NEI), East African Centre for Mathematical Research (EACMaR), Lappeenranta – Lahti University of Technology (LUT) and University of Rwanda (UR) are jointly organizing the 4th school and conference in Mathematics on Inverse Problems Africa to celebrate the successful networking and achievements in the past ten years of cooperation with the region. The two events shall leverage from the latest research done within Bayesian statistical inverse problems, uncertainty quantification, computational statistics and probabilistic machine learning, tools needed especially in today’s artificial intelligence applications. In applications, the special emphasis will be on environmental remote sensing, weather and climate models, and especially climate change related research as well as others
SCHOOL:
October 19th to 23rd 2020 The school aims at providing a forum for engaging discussions between MSc and PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and interested researchers in inverse problems with the objective of creating sustainable and collaborative research in the field of Inverse Problems in the region and beyond. There will be five school topics; Computational Inverse Problems and Regularization, Linear and Non-linear Inverse Problems via Examples, High-dimensional Parameter Estimation for Climate Studies, Probabilistic Machine Learning, and Stochastic and Chaotic Systems
CONFERENCE:
October 26th to 28th 2020 The main objective of the conference is to create a platform for sharing new results and research problems to foster joint research and education among mathematicians from developing and developed countries. The topics include, but not limited, the following; Epidemiological Modeling, Chemical Reactions, Data Assimilation, Bayesian Uncertainty, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Financial Mathematics, Stochastic Processes, and Atmospheric and Ionospheric Models.
