Joseph Mwaniki Promoted to Associate Professor

Prof Joseph Mwaniki

The School of Mathematics is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Joseph Ivivi Mwaniki from senior lecturer to Associate Professor. Prof Mwaniki has been with the school for the last seventeen years. He has risen through the ranks since he was first employed as a Tutorial fellow.

As an Associate professor, he will be gaining new responsibilities.

Prof Mwaniki attended The University of Nairobi for his undergraduate and postgraduate studies. He attained his Ph.D. in Mathematical Finance through a collaboration programme between the school of Mathematics and Uppsala University Sweden. For his post-Doc in Mathematical Finance, he attended The University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Prof Mwaniki has taught undergraduates and postgraduate students, he has supervised several M.Sc. and Ph.D. students some of whom are now his colleagues. Due to his expertise, he is often called as an external examiner to various Universities in east Africa. Aside from the academics, Prof Mwaniki performs other duties like

  • Chairperson of the School of Mathematics timetabling committee,
  • Member of an anti-corruption committee
  • Fourth-year student mentor school of Mathematics
  • School of Mathematics Timetabling representative at the senate timetabling committee
  • School of Mathematics representative at the senate.
