KAPEK Kenya Mathematical Olympiad Produces Top Performers for International Math Competitions

The Kapek Kenya Mathematical Olympiad held the 13th edition of the KKMO “search for Kenya’s next national mathematical Olympiad competition. The competition, organized by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Nairobi, attracted over 46 participants from across the country. 

Virtual Alumni Meet-up

On March 9th, 2023, the Mathematics Association of Nairobi University (M.A.N.U) hosted a virtual alumni meet-up with students. The event's purpose was to provide a chance for alumni to share their post-campus career paths and advise students.  

The event was held on Google Meet. Despite the virtual format, the event was a great success, with many alumni and students in attendance. 

Department of Mathematics Admits First Cohort of MSc Data Science Students.

Departments of Mathematics, University of Nairobi, launched a Master of Science in Data Science with a track in Public Health Data Science program. The  program was launched as a Master of Science in Data Science with a track in Public Health Data Science at the University of Nairobi. The program, dubbed APHREA-DST, is a partnership between Columbia University (USA), Addis Ababa University (Ethiopia), and the University of Nairobi (Kenya).

University of Nairobi Hackathon- World Data Lab

Students are invited to participate in World Data Lab’s  Hackathon running from  17th to 28th February 2023. The winner will be announced on 6th March 2023, at the University of Nairobi. The prize? A paid internship with World Data Lab. The winner will also make a presentation during the University of Nairobi and World Data Lab partnership launch event on 8th March 2023.  More details here

DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS ATTAINS 3RD POSITION

The Department of Mathematics scooped the third place (teaching department’s category) in the 2020/2021 Performance Contracting awards.

The university introduced the annual performance appraisal exercise exercise to:

• Link individual performance targets with organizational strategic objectives

• Continuous feedback on work progress

To celebrate its 60th  anniversary International Science Programme (ISP) has organized workshop on "Gender, diversities and unconscious bias: how to master the playground rules in Academia" which will take place on September 9 and 10, 2021 as part of the ISP 60th anniversary celebration.
