Joseph Mwaniki Promoted to Associate Professor

The School of Mathematics is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Joseph Ivivi Mwaniki from senior lecturer to Associate Professor. Prof Mwaniki has been with the school for the last seventeen years. He has risen through the ranks since he was first employed as a Tutorial fellow.

As an Associate professor, he will be gaining new responsibilities.

School of Mathematics Introduces Automated Timetables

The College of Biological and Physical Sciences (C.B.P.S) improved its teaching and examination timetables. Initially, the timetables were prepared manually and had a lot of errors and inconsistencies. The automated timetable (Uni-Time) was developed by staff and students of Purdue University. The uni time software is distributed free under an open-source license in hopes that colleges and universities can benefit their students through better scheduling. UniTime -Open Source (ApacheLicense, Version 2.0) was used because:

Workshop on Survival Analysis for Cancer Epidemiology

The School of Mathematics held a successful workshop on Survival Analysis for Cancer Epidemiology jointly organized by London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the School of Mathematics. The workshop provided training on both the theory and application of special survival analysis techniques, namely net survival methods and excess hazard models Participants were introduced to population-based cancer survival research and its importance for policy-making.
